HOW TO DRAW CARTOONS: Collection of Reference Images for making Cartoons

As a Cartoonist, one must have the knowledge of HOW TO DRAW various kind of people and the things around his environment. But, practically it seems very difficult to remember the exact details and construction of the characters: be it baby, boy, girl, man or woman, natural scenes, vehicles, birds, animals, plants, various types of electronic gadgets etc., which the Cartoonists may have to draw in their Cartoons. So, any person who aspires tom become a cartoonist must start to collect the REFERENCE IMAGES, as soon he begins to study this art. This practice may well be compared to age old saying:
"The journey of thousand miles must begin with a single step."

A COLLECTION may be summed up as pictures of just everything under the sun, round the globe.

In this computer/ digital age, it has become much easier to collect the images that one might need with help of various search engines like Google, Yahoo etc. Here I would suggest a great Resource called DREAMSTIME, where you can find a lot of Free Quality stock images, to be used as reference.

It is best to arrange them alphabetically, saving them in separate folder. For example store Airplanes, Animals etc. under the folder "A" and so on.

Here are few words of Advice for You:
  1. Don't waste too much of time for collecting the images. As soon as you come across them, save them.
  2. Keep on adding the pictures to your collection. Last but not the least;
  3. Never ever copy these images pictures, but only refer to these images for the correct construction and details of the objects or the things which you are not familiar with.
Until Next Time,
Keep on Cartooning.......
